ASEB ,, Get Well Soon

Bongaigaon have to remain without electricity for 6 to 7 hours in a day. These long power cuts make the life of the people miserable. It has seriously affected the academic environments of the district. The main sufferer is the small businessman like internet cafĂ©, DTP houses and small offset press owners who solely depend on the power supply of ASEB. Students are also bearing the brunt of the power cuts. "Power goes off without any official announcement in the evenings. How will the students study?

One of the reason for such long power cut is due to the non maintenance of the various transformers and for which some of these transformers are not able to bear the load. The city here is facing power cuts from 30 minutes to two hours for five times a day while the situation is much worse in other parts of the state."We are unable to meet the increase in demand during summer. That is the reason for increasing the duration of power cuts," explained the official during tele-phone enquiry.

According to the ASEB, there is shortage of about 400-500 MW against peak hour demand of over 700-780 MW, that results in heavy load shedding. The shortfall in power supply during the off-peak hour is to the tune of 100-150 MW.

Almost all the high officials , eminent and prominent people are using Generator/ Inverter sets in their residences for 24-hours service. Those officials are not trying to feel our problems.

SINUS Home Remedy.......

A new study has found that hot chili peppers, which usually make people 'tear up', may help people 'clear up' certain types of sinus inflammation .

University of Cincinnati allergy researcher Jonathan Bernstein, MD, found that a nasal spray containing an ingredient derived from hot chili peppers (Capsicum annum) might ease the problem.

The study compared the use of the capsicum annum nasal spray to a placebo nasal spray in 44 subjects with a significant component of non-allergic rhinitis (i.e., nasal congestion, sinus pain, sinus pressure) for a period of two weeks.

3D printing in newspapers

Printing systems manufacturer manroland AG showcased 3D printing on plain newsprint at the WAN-IFRA India 2011 conference and expo held in Chennai between September 6 and 8.
The technology by which a 3D image can be viewed in the average daily newspaper using low-cost glasses was demonstrated by the German newspaper Bild last year. Pictures chosen to be displayed in that issue in 3D included a fighter jet on the title page of the publication, and the desk of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Addition of the third dimension to an image is achieved either by shooting it in 3D with a suitable camera, or using software that recalculates existing pictures to achieve the same effect, according to the publication Messenger published by manroland.
Several pictures featured in the issue of Messenger were printed for viewing in 3D, including printing equipment and a nature landscape among others. Similar publications have come out from Thailand, Brazil, Belgium and other countries. The technology offers enhanced prospects for both advertising and editorial, and raises the appeal of printed newspapers, a company official said.

Devices for the disabled, healthcare applications, energy conservation tools… innovations by individuals are now possible thanks to the Government's technological outreach programme.

Aparna TA invented an insulin inhaler, entrepreneur Ajit Narayanan enabled children with cerebral palsy to communicate, Captain Rajesh PMK designed a security system that makes banks almost robbery-proof and, retired engineer Gopurayappa Srinivasan created star node circuit breakers for newly-invented midget transformers.
These are just some of the innovations that have come out of a small cabin of the TePP Outreach Centre operating from the Technology Business Incubator, currently lodged in the Animal House of the University of Madras campus in Taramani.
What's TePP?
TePP or Technopreneur Promotion Programme is an initiative of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (a wing of the Ministry of Science and Technology) that empowers individuals with ideas.

Drink a day may be good for Women

Middle aged women who indulge in a drink or two daily may enjoy better health in old age than their peers who are teetotallers or drink more heavily, a new study has found.

Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that women who enjoy a small tipple (15 grams of alcohol or less) daily improve their chances of avoiding heart disease, diabetes and other mental and physical disorders in later life.
Detailing their findings in the journal PLoS Medicine, the authors defined this good overall health as “successful ageing“.
In their study, the researchers looked at the health of about 14,000 nurses enrolled in a large US survey.
They found that those who frequently drank one to two drinks a night, but no more, had a 30 per cent better chance of overall good health in their seventies than those who avoided alcohol altogether.
Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol on a nightly basis was shown to be healthier than indulging just once or twice a week.
Women who drank on five to seven nights a week enjoyed a 50 per cent better chance of good health in later life than teetotallers, the researchers found.
“These data suggest that regular, moderate consumption of alcohol at midlife may be related to a modest increase in overall health status among women who survive to older ages,” they concluded.

Tips for practicing yoga at home

  Create a space :
Set aside a space dedicated to your yoga practice.  Make sure it is free from furniture that could create a hazard to you as you do various yoga asana.

Invest in tools of the trade :
A mat cleaner will keep your mat smelling fresh after tough workouts.

 Carefully prevent injury :
If your grandmother told you that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, she was right.  When you practice yoga at home, it is your job to make sure that you don’t injury yourself.  Keep your space clear  of obstacles like furniture and children’s toys, and if possible

 Choose your yoga style :
beginners try something like Iyengar yoga or Kripalu yoga to help them learn the mechanics of a pose.  If dynamic movement and deep meditation is your true love, Kundalini Yoga might be the perfect style for you. Shop around for teachers and styles that appeal to you, so that you know what will inspire you at home.

Take your yoga with you :
Even when you are not at home, you can be enhancing your home yoga practice.  Iphone applications are a great way to study yoga asana on the go, or even practice yourpranayama.  Many yoga applications are free and others, such as Long Deep Breathing to help you learn to control your breath, are very affordable.

 Be gentle:
Even 20 minutes of yoga to begin with is stretching areas of your body in a new way.  Start slowly when beginning a yoga practice.  Yoga was not designed as a fitness routine
