Bongaigaon have to remain without electricity for 6 to 7 hours in a day. These long power cuts make the life of the people miserable. It has seriously affected the academic environments of the district. The main sufferer is the small businessman like internet café, DTP houses and small offset press owners who solely depend on the power supply of ASEB. Students are also bearing the brunt of the power cuts. "Power goes off without any official announcement in the evenings. How will the students study?
One of the reason for such long power cut is due to the non maintenance of the various transformers and for which some of these transformers are not able to bear the load. The city here is facing power cuts from 30 minutes to two hours for five times a day while the situation is much worse in other parts of the state."We are unable to meet the increase in demand during summer. That is the reason for increasing the duration of power cuts," explained the official during tele-phone enquiry.
According to the ASEB, there is shortage of about 400-500 MW against peak hour demand of over 700-780 MW, that results in heavy load shedding. The shortfall in power supply during the off-peak hour is to the tune of 100-150 MW.
Almost all the high officials , eminent and prominent people are using Generator/ Inverter sets in their residences for 24-hours service. Those officials are not trying to feel our problems.
